Charles Rosen was an American painter recognized for his contributions to the Pennsylvania Impressionist movement before transitioning to modernist and Cubist influences. His work often balanced luminosity, structure, and a sense of place, making him a significant figure in early 20th-century American painting.

Rosen created this hand-painted sign to promote the Arts and Crafts Club of New York City, part of the larger Arts and Crafts Movement which emerged in response to the mechanization of industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This movement emphasized handmade craftsmanship, quality materials, and artistic integrity over mass production. These organizations provided vital spaces for artists and craftsmen to exchange ideas, exhibit work, and promote traditional artistic techniques.
